21 December 2012: Santiago, Chile – Aggreko, the world leader in temporary power and temperature control services, will provide a mobile power solution for the Dakar 2013, the world’s greatest endurance motor race.
Taking place in January 2013 across Peru, Argentina and Chile, Dakar 2013 will be the fourth edition of the event that Aggreko has powered since the race relocated from Europe and Africa to Latin America in 2009.
Competitors will tackle a gruelling 8,000-kilometre course over 15 days, starting in the Peruvian capital Lima on January 5th and finishing in Santiago, Chile, on January 19th. Due to the remote nature of many of the route stages, the organisers needed a mobile, fully independent and highly reliable power supply to run essential services such as communications and broadcast facilities and to provide camp power throughout the race.
The Aggreko solution includes three separate truck-mounted generator sets that will move between each stage of the event. These sets, consisting of two 350 kVA generators, will ensure that power services are ready before the arrival of competitors and support teams at the end of each stage. A team of Aggreko technicians will travel alongside the equipment to install, operate and then decommission the generators.
“Dakar is just as much a race for Aggreko as it is for the competitors and their support teams,” commented Andras Mesics, General Manager, Aggreko Chile, Peru and Bolivia. “We are racing against the clock to ensure a seamless power supply is available at each and every point of the race. It’s a challenge we look forward to every year, not only because of the excitement of the event, but also because it highlights the ability of both our people and our equipment to work and thrive under such demanding conditions, without compromising on Aggreko’s stringent quality and safety standards.”
